The Act of Giving - Pockets of Bliss

Pockets of bliss is a gift box service. You know this if you follow us and have browsed our website; but why is pockets of bliss a gift box small biz, what was the reason and ideas that came to fruition to become pockets of bliss.

Well, I don't ever hide the fact or feel any shame in saying that pockets of bliss was born from my own mental health struggles and how little gifts, cards and messages really helped me. I guess I felt that as lonely as I was in my head, I knew I was still thought about and loved.

When you think of gifts its quite standard and rightly so that birthdays and Christmas will spring to mind but, while the holiday season and birthdays often get the spotlight for gift-giving, the joy of giving and receiving gifts transcends specific occasions. Let’s delve into why giving gifts can be such a heartwarming experience and explore the myriad reasons why a well-chosen gift can bring a smile to someone’s face.

One of the most cherished aspects of receiving a gift is the realisation that someone took the time and effort to think about you, and if you really stop and think about how precious a feeling that truly is, its heart warming. The thoughtfulness isn't just about the gift in itself, but the message the gift conveys from them to you, the gift tells the recipient that the giver knows and appreciates them.

And then there is the joy of surprise. The unexpected nature of a surprise gift can evoke genuine happiness and curiosity, leading to an uplifting experience that lingers long after the initial surprise.

Gifts can be incredibly meaningful in times of distress or difficulty and I have personal connections to this when I went through a really hard time with Depression and Anxiety in 2023, but I know it had been brewing through loads of stressors that had been hitting me hard for around 2 years before it all came out. Every Christmas we send a thoughtful gift to the parents of our dear friend who took his own life around Christmas in 2021, its our way of saying that he is never ever out of our thoughts or our hearts, and that we are thinking of them and him always. A thoughtful gift can offer comfort, show solidarity, and provide emotional support. It’s a way to say, “I’m here for you,” without needing words. The comfort derived from such gestures can be profoundly healing and can help someone navigate challenging times with a bit more strength and hope.

When we give, we inspire others to give as well. Acts of generosity can create a ripple effect, fostering a culture of giving and gratitude. This doesn’t only apply to physical gifts but can extend to acts of kindness and service. The spirit of giving encourages us to be more aware of the needs of those around us and to respond with empathy and generosity. Even the act of smiling at someone or saying Hello, can make someones day.

The act of giving is a beautiful reminder of our interconnectedness and our ability to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Gifting doesn't have to cost the earth or even very much at all, so whether it’s a small token or an elaborate present, the joy of giving and receiving gifts lies in the thought, care, and love embedded in each gesture. So the next time you find yourself considering a gift, remember that it’s not just about the object itself but about the connection and happiness it fosters. And that, in itself, is a gift worth celebrating.
